Description

One day in ancient Rome

Walk along an ancient lane, pass through a Roman gate, visit a noble house… and then immerse yourself in the very heart of the ancient city.

On the Caelian Hill, just beside the Colosseum, time seems to have stood still. Here, modern buildings only barely conceal the traces of antiquity. Elevated above the dangerous valleys below, this area became home to monasteries and churches after the fall of the Roman Empire. Today, it preserves the atmosphere of a forgotten neighborhood, offering a peaceful path from the ancient walls down into the center of Rome.

Although only minutes away from the crowded monuments, this area remains quiet and almost untouched by tourists. We will follow the original Roman route, walking where citizens once walked centuries ago.

Our journey begins at one of the ancient Roman barracks. Passing through the Porta Caelimontana, still opening through the military walls, we’ll stroll along the ancient road, stopping at a Roman temple and entering a preserved Roman house with its everyday rooms and frescoes.

Descending from the hill, we’ll reach the Circus Maximus, the oldest and longest-standing entertainment venue in history, where thrilling chariot races were held for centuries.

Following the ancient path further, we’ll arrive at the banks of the Tiber—the birthplace of Rome—and visit its earliest temple dedicated to Hercules.

Eventually, walking along the Vicus Tuscus and Vicus Iugarius, we’ll climb the Capitoline Hill and then continue on the Sacred Way through the Roman Forum, ending our journey at the iconic Colosseum, the most famous amphitheater in the world.

This 3-hour tour includes about one hour of walking, entirely downhill or on flat terrain, allowing you to explore both celebrated monuments and hidden gems of Ancient Rome—all in one unforgettable experience.

On request, the itinerary can be adjusted: shortened, extended, or enriched with additional sites, tailored to your personal interests.
